# JuggleHire Self-Hosted Installation Guide

This guide walks you through installing JuggleHire on your server. Follow these steps to set up your recruitment software quickly and efficiently.

> ****Note****: This guide is a detailed walkthrough of the server setup process. For local development installation, please refer to the README.md file included with your JuggleHire package.

## System Requirements

* Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or newer
* Minimum 2GB RAM (4GB recommended)
* 20GB storage space
* Root or sudo access

## Pre-Installation Checklist

1. A domain or subdomain pointing to your server (e.g.,`app.yourdomain.com`is recommended)
2. SSH access to your server
3. A valid email address for SSL certificate setup
4. The JuggleHire zip file provided to you after purchase

## Step 1: Connect to Your Server

SSH into your server as a user with sudo privileges:

```
ssh username@your_server_ip
```

## Step 2: Update System Packages

Update your system packages to ensure you have the latest software:

```
sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get upgrade -y
```

## Step 3: Install Required PHP Extensions

Install PHP 8.3 and all required extensions:

```
sudo apt-get install php8.3-fpm php8.3-mysql php8.3-cli php8.3-zip php8.3-curl php8.3-xml php8.3-mbstring php8.3-gmp php8.3-gd php8.3-imagick -y
```

## Step 4: Install MySQL Server

Install MySQL server and secure the installation:

```
sudo apt-get install mysql-server -ysudo systemctl start mysqlsudo systemctl enable mysql
```

Secure MySQL installation:

```
sudo mysql_secure_installation
```

During this process:

* Set a strong root password
* Remove anonymous users
* Disallow root login remotely
* Remove test database
* Reload privilege tables

## Step 5: Create a Database for JuggleHire

Log in to MySQL and create a database:

```
sudo mysql -u root -p
```

In the MySQL prompt:

```
CREATE DATABASE jugglehire;CREATE USER 'jugglehireuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'your_strong_password';GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON jugglehire.* TO 'jugglehireuser'@'localhost';FLUSH PRIVILEGES;EXIT;
```

⚠️****Important****: Replace`'your\_strong\_password'`with a secure password.

## Step 6: Install Caddy Server

Caddy is a web server that automatically handles SSL certificates:

```
sudo apt-get install -y debian-keyring debian-archive-keyring apt-transport-https curlcurl -1sLf 'https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/caddy/stable/gpg.key' | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/caddy-stable-archive-keyring.gpgcurl -1sLf 'https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/caddy/stable/debian.deb.txt' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/caddy-stable.listsudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install caddy=2.8.4 --allow-downgrades -y

## Step 7: Configure Firewall

Allow HTTP and HTTPS traffic:

```
sudo apt-get install ufw -ysudo ufw allow 22sudo ufw allow 80sudo ufw allow 443sudo ufw enable
```

## Step 8: Create Web Directory

Create a directory for your JuggleHire installation:

```
sudo mkdir -p /var/www/app.yourdomain.com
```

> ****Note****: We recommend using a subdomain like`app.yourdomain.com`for your JuggleHire installation, but you can also install it on your primary domain if preferred.

## Step 9: Configure Caddy

Create a new Caddyfile:

```
sudo mv /etc/caddy/Caddyfile /etc/caddy/Caddyfile.backupsudo nano /etc/caddy/Caddyfile
```

Paste the following configuration (replace`yourdomain.com`and[`your@email.com`](mailto:your@email.com)with your domain and email):

```

Set proper permissions and restart Caddy:

```
sudo chown -R caddy:caddy /etc/caddysudo chmod 660 /etc/caddy/Caddyfilesudo systemctl restart caddy
```

## Step 10: Upload and Install JuggleHire

1. Upload the JuggleHire zip file to your server using SFTP or SCP. If you're using a tool like FileZilla, connect to your server and upload the zip file to a temporary location like`/tmp`.
2. Navigate to your web directory:

```
cd /var/www/yourdomain.com
```

3. Move and extract the zip file:

```
sudo apt-get install unzip -ysudo mv /tmp/jugglehire.zip .sudo unzip -o jugglehire.zipsudo rm jugglehire.zip
```

> ****Note****: Replace`jugglehire.zip`with the actual filename you received.

## Step 11: Install Composer

Install Composer globally:

```

## Step 12: Configure JuggleHire

Copy the .env.example file to .env:

```
cp .env.example .envnano .env
```

Update the following settings in the .env file:

```
APP_ENV=productionAPP_DEBUG=falseAPP_URL=https://yourdomain.comDB_DATABASE=jugglehireDB_USERNAME=jugglehireuserDB_PASSWORD=your_strong_passwordMAIL_MAILER=sendmailMAIL_FROM_ADDRESS=noreply@yourdomain.comMAIL_FROM_NAME="${APP_NAME}"
```

## Step 13: Install Dependencies and Set Up the Database

```
composer install --no-interaction --optimize-autoloaderphp artisan key:generatephp artisan storage:linkphp artisan migrate --seedphp artisan optimize:clear
```

## Step 14: Configure Email (Optional but Recommended)

Install Postfix for email sending:

```
sudo apt install postfix mailutils -y
```

During installation, select "Internet Site" and enter your domain name (e.g.,`mail.yourdomain.com`).

Set the hostname:

```
sudo hostnamectl set-hostname mail.yourdomain.comsudo systemctl restart postfix
```

## Step 15: Set Up Background Jobs with Supervisor

Install Supervisor to manage background jobs:

```
sudo apt-get install supervisor -y
```

Create a configuration file for the Laravel queue:

```
sudo nano /etc/supervisor/conf.d/laravel-queue.conf
```

Add the following content:

```
[program:laravel-queue]process_name=%(program_name)s_%(process_num)02dcommand=/bin/bash /var/www/yourdomain.com/start-queue.shautostart=trueautorestart=trueuser=www-datanumprocs=1redirect_stderr=truestdout_logfile=/var/log/laravel-queue.logstderr_logfile=/var/log/laravel-queue-error.log
```

Create the start-queue.sh script:

```
nano /var/www/yourdomain.com/start-queue.sh
```

Add the following content:

```
#!/bin/bashcd /var/www/yourdomain.comphp artisan queue:work --sleep=3 --tries=3
```

Make the script executable:

```
chmod +x /var/www/yourdomain.com/start-queue.sh
```

Reload Supervisor configuration:

```
sudo supervisorctl rereadsudo supervisorctl updatesudo supervisorctl start laravel-queue:*
```

## Step 16: Set Proper Permissions

```
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/yourdomain.comsudo chmod -R 775 /var/www/yourdomain.com/storagesudo chmod -R 775 /var/www/yourdomain.com/bootstrap/cache
```

## Step 17: Test Your Installation

Visit your domain in a browser (e.g.,[`https://yourdomain.com/login`)](https://yourdomain.com/login))and log in with the default credentials:

* Email:[admin@admin.com](mailto:admin@admin.com)
* Password: password

⚠️****Important****: Change the default password immediately after logging in!

## Troubleshooting Common Issues

### Issue: 500 Server Error

* Check the Laravel log file:`sudo tail -f /var/www/yourdomain.com/storage/logs/laravel.log`
* Ensure proper permissions:`sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/yourdomain.com`

### Issue: Unable to Connect to Database

* Verify MySQL is running:`sudo systemctl status mysql`
* Check database credentials in the .env file

### Issue: Email Not Sending

* Verify Postfix is running:`sudo systemctl status postfix`
* Check mail logs:`sudo tail -f /var/log/mail.log`

## Security Recommendations

1. Change the default admin password immediately
2. Set up regular backups of your database
3. Keep your server and JuggleHire up to date
4. Configure a firewall to only allow necessary connections
5. Use strong passwords for all accounts

## Maintenance

### Updating JuggleHire

When a new version is available, follow these steps:

1. Download the new package
2. Back up your current installation and database
3. Replace the files (keeping your .env file)
4. Run migrations:`php artisan migrate`
5. Clear cache:`php artisan optimize:clear`

### Regular Backups

Set up a cron job to automatically back up your database:

```
sudo crontab -e
```

Add the following line to run a backup daily at 2 AM:

```
0 2 * * * mysqldump -u jugglehireuser -p'your_strong_password' jugglehire > /path/to/backup/jugglehire_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d).sql
```

After successful installation, you may want to customize your JuggleHire instance:
